The Agrodome is the perfect case study for any Geography or Tourism Student. Opening in 1971, the Agrodome started a new era of Tourist Attractions from the 1970s onwards. It was the first Attraction in Rotorua not based on a natural feature, such as Springs, Geothermal features or the Lake.
The Agrodome was started by George Harford and Godfrey Bowen. The Bowen Family were pioneers in the Shearing industry and established the Bowen shearing technique that is still used in shearing sheds in New Zealand and around the world today. The Agrodome is still owned and operated by these two founding families, now in their third generation.
Today the Agrodome is one of New Zealand's premier attractions with visitor numbers in the hundreds of thousands annually.
At the Agrodome we offer curriculum based lectures to school groups studying Year 12 or 13 Geography, Tourism and related subjects. The Agrodome is a great place to get out of the class room and learn and experience tourism first hand.
Both programmes have been designed by teachers to fit within the 2010 and beyond New Zealand school curriculum. These lectures are provided at no extra cost for school groups visiting the Sheep Show and/or Farm Tour. Bookings are essential.
